Private Papers Collection
ISEAS Library houses the private papers of over 30 prominent personalities and historical figures, mainly from Singapore and Malaysia. The notable individuals include David Marshall, S. Rajaratnam, Tan Cheng Lock, Tan Chin Tuan, and Lee Hau Shik (HS Lee). The papers provide unique historical perspectives about Southeast Asia from the 1940s-1960s, a time of great political, social, and economic change in the region.
It is advisable to search within each Private Papers for quicker search results.
Using the collections
Search within the collection or use the following finding aid:

- Folio lists - an overview of the folios (folders) within the collection, which includes folio titles, coverage dates, and folder accession numbers.
- Item lists (where available) - provides specific information about each document in the folio, such as the title or a brief description, date and document accession number.
Viewing & Access
Besides a SEALionPLUS account, permission is required to view all private papers. To request access:

- Consult the Finding Aid of the papers to select the items you wish to consult.
- Submit the Viewing Request form. (If you don't have a SEALionPLUS account, we'll create one for you.)
Additional permissions may be required for certain collections due to conditions stipulated by the depositors/donors.
Where remote viewing is available, you may request up to ten folios each time for a 7-day online consultation period.
