Angkor Wat was a ceremonial Hindu-Buddhist temple complex built in the 12th century during the Angkor Period by King Suryavarman. The temple was originally dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu but evolved to include Buddhist influences over time. The great monument—along with nearby sites such as Bayon—is a testimony of the achievements of the Khmer Empire.
This collection of images featuring the architecture and the iconography of Angkor Wat was taken by Dr EA Darith who during his time at ISEAS as a Visiting Senior Fellow was serving as the Deputy Director of the Department of Conservation of Monuments Outside Angkor Park, APSARA (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap).
