There are many styles of Chinese opera which is an important facet of Chinese culture and entertainment. The joss sticks are drying on the ground of the courtyard. Joss sticks are offered as a mark of respect to the gods and to ward off evil spirits. Holding them in clasped hands, devotees gently sway them forwards and backwards as they pray silently.
