DescriptionThe Lecture, chaired by DPM Teo Chee Hean, was entitled “Forging a Strong Partnership to Enhance Prosperity of Asia”.

President Xi acknowledged the important roles played by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew with the late Mr Deng Xiaoping in laying the foundations for close Singapore-China relations. He shared his vision of the future development of China, and how this development can be beneficial for both China and Asia, and the world.

The Lecture was attended by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; cabinet ministers including Mr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance; Mr Ng Chee Meng, Acting Minister for Education (Schools) & Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport; Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Transport; and the Chinese delegation including Mr Wang Huning, Member of the Political Bureau of the CCCPC; Mr Li Zhanshu, Member of the Political Bureau of the CCCPC; Mr Yang Jiechi, State Councillor; Mr Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; ambassadors; senior government officials; business leaders; academics; students and members of the media.

Xi Jinping, born in June 1953, is from Fuping, Shaanxi Province. He entered the workforce in January 1969 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in January 1974. He was Party Branch secretary, Liangjiahe Brigade, Wen’anyi Commune, Yanchuan County, Shaanxi Province from 1969 to 1975. From 1975 to 1979, he studied basic organic synthesis at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Tsinghua University with a major in Marxist theory and ideological and political education, has an in-service postgraduate education and holds the degree of Doctor of Laws.
